Cyberbullying Pro-Con Essay Rough Draft

Cyberbullying is something that happens all the time, at any time of day. It can occur maybe at 2 in the morning, in the middle of the night, or during class hours. People see this happen on Youtube comments, on Instagram photos, Twitter, and Facebook as well. The common age group that this is mostly happening to is preteens and teens, and it often makes them feel so helpless. There's very minimal evidence that cyberbullying is a good thing, but it does have some upsides, like how it lets the victim learn how to defend themselves in their everyday lives. Cyberbullying can make a person suicidal by how severe the abuse is, the humiliation that it brings, and how it never actually stops.
"The abuse is so severe and inescapable that they feel that committing suicide is their only way out. Young adults and kids are very susceptible to criticism and cruelty because they're still unsure of themselves." (The Cons of Cyberbullying, par. 2) To have a better understanding of cyberbullying, the meaning of it is when someone harasses, mistreats, or makes fun of another person online while using cell phones or other electronic devices. The abuse that the victim receives makes them feel that committing suicide is their only way out. There's such a large increase in young kids falling into a depressed state, and sadly, some of these kids turn to suicide as a way out. Cyberbullying isn't just a one time thing. It's something that continuously goes on up until either the victim can't take it anymore, or if the bully is tired of messing around and learned their mistake. Other than that, there's really no way out.
"When it comes to cyberbullying all bets are off. Cell phones and computers are always there, the attacks can happen at any time of the day or night and anywhere. This makes the victims feel completely helpless." (The Cons of Cyberbullying, par. 4) Remember, cyberbullying online makes it easy for people from other countries to cyberbully others. It makes everyone worldwide able to reply to anything on the internet. For example, you can have someone from the UK bully someone from the US. That's why it's so much easier to get away with cyberbullying. On the other hand, since everything online stays online, it's easy to track who has been bullying that specific person. This way, people at least have a clue on who could possibly be bullying that same person. Mostly everything online is easy to find, but we don't really bother to do anything about it.
"Because cyberbullying doesn't occur in the school in a literal sense, many schools do not do anything about it. It's not because they don't care, but the guidelines for discipline and boundaries of when their control stops is unclear when it comes to students' online lives." (The Cons of Cyberbullying, par. 3) Teachers, counselors, and the principal don't do anything when it comes to cyberbullying. The reason for this is because it has nothing to do with their job whatsoever. They may be able to help you with homework problems, but nonetheless they don't have anything to do with your online life. The adults roaming around on the campus can help you, you just have to ask. Counselors are the people that you would go to for your personal problems, if you were comfortable enough with them. You ask them for help, they will help you calm down and feel at least a little better. For cyberbullying, you wouldn't exactly bring this to the counselor's office. Since it's online, your counselor can't just say "it's okay just don't type anything back." If that was the only response you would get from your counselor, you'd might as well not do anything about it right? Remember, adults can help you with a lot, but they can't help you with everything.
"Cyberbullying is very much public, and because it is published it has the ability to reach a very broad audience. Furthering the humiliation of the person being harassed." (The Cons of Cyberbullying, par.5) Cyberbullying is a hassle for the victim, especially if they haven't even done anything wrong. It humiliates the victim, since it also reaches a very big audience. Remember, people can be commenting from anywhere around the world, so it makes it worse. Don't be a bully, be a friend.

  1. YOU NEED TO FOLLOW THE STRUCTURE AND FORMAT OF NOT JUST AN ESSAY BUT ALSO A CHUNKY PARAGRAPH. YOU CAN'T START A PARAGRAPH WITH A QUOTE BUT A TOPIC SENTENCE, THIS IS SOMETHING YOU DID LAST YEAR AND STILL HAVEN'T FIXED. YOU HAVE A THESIS STATEMENT BUT THE BODY PARAGRAPHS DO NOT EXPLAIN/SUPPORT OR PROVE IT AT ALL. REMEMBER YOUR THESIS STATEMENT HAS THREE MAIN SUPPORTING REASONS, EACH REASON IS SUPPOSED TO BE EXPLAINED IN A BODY PARAGRAPH. YOUR EVIDENCE IS HIGHLY INEFFECTIVE AS IT'S JUST QUOTES OF WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING. THERE IS NO ACTUAL DATA THAT PROVES ANYTHING. AS(1+)
